Matsuri is a family-friendly event, which is why we have a Kid’s Area with activities and workshops for the little ones throughout the weekend. The full program will be available very soon!
In addition to workshops and performances, we also offer games for children brought directly from the summer festivals of Japan.
At the end of each day of the festival, we dance the Barcelona Ondo together, a song written especially for the matsuri. On both days, we will hold a workshop where children and their families can learn the dance and enjoy the Bon Odori experience without having to stay until late.
Instead of breaking a piñata, why not try with a watermelon? This traditional summer game is played in pairs, with one person guiding the other, who’s blindfolded. On both days of the festival, there will be several competitions, and those who smash the watermelon first get to take a slice home.
These colorful water balloons are one of the iconic images of summer in Japan. Catching them seems easy, but you have to be very careful not to break the paper rod!
Accompanied by the matsuri organizers, children can carry the omikoshi each year, a small portable Shinto shrine used in Japan during traditional festivals to transport a deity from its main shrine through neighborhoods to bless them.
